A number of elderly people have been targeted in distraction offences in Claygate recently.
People have been warned to be on guard after an attempted distraction offence at an address off The Avenue at about 4pm on Wednesday, February 6.
The victim, a woman in her 70s, answered the door to a man who claimed he worked for a company carrying out repair work to drains in the road.
The offender told the elderly woman some of the drainage equipment would need to be used in her address and he required an initial payment of £2,000 for work to be carried out.
The lady refused to give any money and he left the address and did not return.
The offender was a white man in his late 40s, dark hair, clean shaven, with brown eyes and was wearing a dark coloured jumper and dark trousers.
The incident is being linked to another offence where a woman in her 90s was targeted at an address in Sunbury on Tuesday, January 29.
Surrey Police are caring out house-to-house enquiries and neighbourhood officers have visited the victims to provide reassurance and crime prevention advice.
