There were plenty of buns in the oven as the town’s first Bake Off event took place on Saturday.
More than 500 people attended the Great Croydon Bake Off, held in Exchange Square, opposite Matthews Yard.
The Portas Town Team sponsored the event, providing a large marquee and the ovens.
Kimberly Scott-Matthews was the winner of the Winter Bake Off and will go through to the final on October 19.
Her winning bakes were cheddar cheese scones with apple and thyme chutney along with orange and cranberry bakewell tart with cointreau icing.
Miss Scott-Matthews said: “I had a excellent time at the bake off.
"There was a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere and it was wonderful to chat to members of the public whilst baking.”
Christo Matthews, who organised the event, said he is planning for bigger and better things for the next event.
He said: “It went amazingly well. For the first one it had all the potential to be dead but around 500 people turned up throughout the day. It was great.”
Gavin Barwell, MP for Croydon Central also attended the event, he said: “The Croydon Bake Off is a great thing. The more community events we can have like this, the better it is for the town.”
The Spring Bake Off will be held on Saturday May 11. To take part in the event email contact@christopm.com or visit CroydonBakeOff.com for more information.
