I agree with the letters in your January 24 edition about the Better Services, Better Value review.
I would say John Ashworth is being very generous in his travel times to hospitals. Am I right assuming that all the times were either estimated or were they carried out on a test run and not at busy times of the day. The route to St George’s can be very busy at any time of the day or evening.
This is especially around the South Wimbledon or Collier Wood area. Having travelled the route from St Helier to St George’s a vast amount of times makes me feel the times stated are
generous.
How it can be said that people having to travel further for treatment are better off I do not see. If the person’s condition is made worse by the journey then there is a good chance they will be in hospital longer, meaning in he long run there could be a bigger shortage of beds than there is now.
The next thing they will say they are not closing the St Helier A&E but downgrading them. This is the same as closing them, they more or less turn into a minor injury unit, so if you have anything bigger than a cut finger you go to St George’s.
