Uganda’s chief nurse visited St Peter’s Hospital to meet members of the nursing team, visit wards and talk about aspects of patient care.
The visit from Enid Mwebaza last week was part of a new initiative aimed at giving British support to the rebuilding of Uganda’s health services after 20 years of civil war.
The trust’s chief nurse, Suzanne Rankin, agreed to mentor Ms Mwebaza and to share good clinical practice and strategies to maintain and improve staff morale.
Speaking after the visit, Ms Rankin said: “I was delighted and honoured to be asked to help the Uganda health service to develop and improve after the terrible time the country has been through.
“Enid is under no illusions about the problems she faces but she is keen to benefit from the knowledge and experience of the NHS and we will be in frequent touch over the coming months.”
