I am writing to correct the letter sent to all residents in South Sutton, Cheam and Belmont by Conservative Cllr Tony Shields, in his role as Chair of the Local Committee.
It is a shame that Coun Shields has got so confused and I'd be happy to accompany him on a tour of the area so he can get to know it better.
In the letter he says "A disabled swing will be installed in Cheam Park Farm Junior School which has been paid for by the committee".
No! The disabled swing will be installed in Cheam Park Playground. So far the Committee has donated £2,000 towards the total cost of £11,000. The Cheam Park Farm Junior School have raised £5,000 and St Dunstan's School £270.
I find it especially ironic, as he was so critical of previous letters and communications sent out to residents by the Council, explaining what we are doing. Now Coun Shields gets to have his say and he gets it wrong.
At the March Local Committee, I will be asking Councillors to approve the outstanding balance of £4,000 from our funds to ensure the disabled swing is installed in Cheam Park. Then we really will have something to celebrate.
As one of my old teachers would say "In the future Coun Shields a little less haste and a bit more care please"
Councillor Mary Burstow
