A man was arrested yesterday in connection with an incident on Epsom Downs.
The arrest came after police launched a search for a man who allegedly threatened to shoot another man on Tuesday afternoon.
The man, 43, from the Chipstead area, was arrested yesterday evening in Reigate and remains in police custody.
Armed police officers rushed to the scene in Epsom Downs after hearing reports of threat at 3.50pm on Tuesday.
Police found the alleged victim, who was not injured, and began the search for the second man.
Detective Inspector Sean Kelly, from Epsom CID, said: "Understandably this incident has caused some concern in the local community and I hope residents are reassured by this arrest.
“We have been making extensive enquiries over the last two days which may have caused some disturbance to those living and working in the area.
“I would like to thank members of the public for their patience whilst these enquiries were carried out."
Residents had taken to Twitter to report a helicopter circling above the downs and voice concerns about public safety.
