Romance blossomed when a whole café spontaneously burst into song for a flash mob wedding proposal.

Jez Phillips, 35, took his unsuspecting partner and friend for a quiet brunch in Breads Etcetera, Clapham High Street, on Sunday.

But when he left the table for a few minutes Katty Elyassi, 32, was shocked to find herself serenaded with Madness' song 'It Must Be Love' by the café's customers.

Little did she know her partner hired male acappella group Buzztones to surprise her with the rendition.

As the song came to a close Mr Phillips returned in a tuxedo to ask for her hand and and his romantic gesture got the required result.

Mr Phillips, of Clapham Common, said: "I wanted to make it a bit special. I told her it would be when she least expected it, I wanted to make it as random as possible.

"I'm not really a nervous person but I was really nervous and shaking, I didn't want to fluff it.

"She was in shock, I managed to get her completely off guard. I got the ring right as well."

The property developer spent two rehearsal sessions with the group before taking the plunge, which involved pretending to propose to one singer ten times.

James King, Buzztones singer, said: "It was our first ever proposal, we have done a few corporate gigs.

"We all felt nervous ourselves as a choir. Some of the group felt emotional, we felt like we were proposing too."

The couple, who have been together for two years, are yet to set a date for the wedding but said they will involve the Buzztones if they get married in the UK.
