Six people have been arrested and 10 warrants have been executed by police in Croydon, as officers crackdown on criminals in a day of action.

Officers in the borough have been joined by specialist colleagues to carry out arrests, search warrants, licensing enforcement, ANPR Operations and high visibility patrols throughout the day as part of Operation Big Wing.

Suspects in Croydon have been arrested on suspicion of burglary, robbery and for drug offences.

Officers will also be conducting street briefings and police surgeries to inform the public about what is being done to tackle crime and disorder.

A street briefing will take place between 2pm, and 2.30pm at South Norwood clock tower, and another will take place at Thornton Heath leisure centre between 4pm and 5pm.

Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, said: "Today should send a clear message - if you're a criminal all of the Met's officers and staff are working to catch you.

"The Met has an array of specialist experts as well as professional local officers who work daily to keep Londoners safe.

"This Big Wing operation brings them visibly together and the public should see them working to cut crime."
