After reading the article on Croydon University Hospital accident and emergency (A&E) department (Hospital ‘in need of drastic care’, February 6) I felt I must write to say how impressed I was by the A&E department and my subsequent treatment at the hospital.
I have a serious illness and developed an infection due to chemotherapy treatment. I attended A&E on January 30 and, after explaining my condition to the receptionist, I was impressed by her knowledge, understanding and sense of urgency.
I was examined by a doctor almost without delay and immediately put at my ease.
Various tests were carefully and thoroughly carried out.
My condition was taken seriously, resulting in a speedy admission to the acute medical ward and then Purley ward.
I remained in hospital for five days and my treatment and progress were constantly monitored by the medical staff.
I was very well treated and cared for by all the staff I came in contact with, who all acted with respect, professionalism, care and consideration, I
always felt I was in safe hands.
