I would like to add my voice to the protest at the great loss of trees along the Wandle. Are trees not protected by our sense of their innate aesthetic and ecological worth?
Why is it that no plan was made to replace them? There are many unwanted seedlings of trees such as holly in gardens such as mine which could easily be transplanted at no cost at all. And if such trees produced too much shade, I am sure that with care the right ones could be found or bought and planted. I would be happy to assist in such a project, to protect the long-treasured wildness of Wilderness Island and the nearby riverbank.
Kind regards,
Karin Andrews Jashapara
