We are asking everyone in Sutton and Merton to join us in the last big push to raise vital funds for St Raphael’s Hospice.
Last year the Sutton and Wimbledon Guardian’s launched the Give Your Quid campaign to raise funds for the North Cheam hospice which cares for around 900 patients each year.
The campaign, launched by Absolutely Fabulous star June Whitfield, has seen people walking on fire, Santas dashing through Nonsuch Park and endorsement by government ministers.
As part of the campaign celebrating the hospice's 25th birthday, the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross, who run the adjacent St Anthony’s Hospital, have pledged that St Anthony’s will match fund all donations up to £111,000.
So if you haven’t donated yet, this is the time, with every £1 you donate being doubled to £2.
Keith Witham, the hospice’s director of fundraising and communications said: "The support that St Raphael’s has had from both the Sutton and Wimbledon Guardians over the last year has been absolutely fantastic.
"As well as raising extra funds it has importantly raised awareness of the work of the hospice and there are now a lot more people aware of how many patients we support and the costs of doing that.
"Having the match funding from St Anthony’s means we will raise in excess of £120,000 for the hospice which is really fantastic all round."
It costs about £4,500 to care for each patient at the hospice and £4m to keep the charity running each year.
The NHS only provides a quarter of this money – it has to raise the rest through donations, legacies and a host of fundraising events.
By donating to the appeal, you will be helping local families at the time they are most vulnerable.
