A refrigeration and air-conditioning engineer is running the Virgin London Marathon this month to raise money for an Epsom-based charity.
Mark Bushell, 30, of Epsom Downs, hopes to raise £2,000 for The Sunnybank Trust which supports people with learning disabilities.
Mr Bushell was encouraged to step up to the gruelling 26-mile challenge by his mother-in-law, an advocate for the charity.
"I go to the gym and I try to look after myself," he said.
"It is my first London marathon - it is my first big run. I've been working for the last few months trying to get up to 20 miles.
"I can see why people do the London marathon, why people go out running. It makes you feel so much better."
Mr Bushell added: "It'll be serious, but fun. I'm going to try and enjoy myself."
