Twickenham's streets are buzzing with chatter and lined with fancy dress-clad service personnel as 70,000 fans flock in for a pre-celebration of today's match.

The Army vs Navy game will kick-off at 3pm today at Twickenham stadium, where a long-standing friendly rivalry will be played out for the Babcock Trophy.

The ever-popular Military Wives Choirs will be entertaining the crowd before the match, together with the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines.

Fans have been lining the streets since 11am this morning, and are making the most of the local pubs along London Road - which is now closed to traffic.

A Twickenham police spokesman said: “The Army vs Navy Rugby match 2013 is like no other rugby event, and brings considerable policing and community issues.

“Over the past two years the licensee’s have all agreed a closure time of 8pm. This year will be no different. This significantly assists in the dispersal of fans attending the event, many of which may have had considerable amounts of alcohol to drink by this time."

Pubs must stop serving by 8pm and have all customers out by 8.30pm.

Richmond Council and the police are also reminding visitors not to use streets as urinals, with some complaints from residents already emerging.

Police borough commander, chief superintendent, Clive Chalk, said: "My officers and I want everyone visiting the borough to be respectful of the residents and enjoy themselves. Make no mistake though if you need to spend a penny; don't let it cost you £80."

There are still a few tickets on the gate for anyone that fancies a last minute trip to the match. For more information, visit armynavymatch.org.uk.
