Volunteers were out on the doorstep last week giving a boost to our Shine On appeal to raise £75,000 for a charity providing vital services to people with learning disabilities.

Users, volunteers and members of The Sunnybank Trust, based in St Barnabas Church, Temple Road, Epsom, were out on the streets of Epsom, and were joined by MP Chris Grayling, on Thursday morning, May 30, to deliver Shine On postcards, explaining how people can support the appeal, to as many homes as possible.

Mr Grayling comically warned younger members of the group of the perils of the "silent dog" before they set off.

He said: "The dog to watch out for when delivering our Shine On postcards isn’t the dog which bounds over barking, but the silent dog on the other side of the letterbox wanting to bite off a finger."

The Sunnybank Trust also has a stall at The Ashley Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday, as part of Buy Local Week, which is being coordinated by the Best of Epsom and Ewell, the business networking franchise which is promoting local businesses to the community throughout the week.

Visit the stall to find out more about the appeal, which was launched by the Epsom Guardian three weeks ago, and has so far raised £1,500 to save its services - which include a weekly social club, Kites; a friendship programme; and independent advocacy.
