When I first told friends and family I was due in the summer, I was met with some worried comments about handling pregnancy during the hot, sticky, unbearable months and how tough it would be.

It had not even crossed my mind, but as we all know there are pessimists and commentators everywhere on the subject of childbirth.

But this summer has been so mild it has been perfect. Even when it has been warm I have enjoyed basking in the sun, watching my son run around without a care in the world.

However, I am hoping we have a great summer when, or should, it arrive. Fingers crossed.

One word linked with pregnancy is abstinence. They say in all the books you are not as stringent as you were with the first, but I just did not risk it.

Call me paranoid but hey, what is good for the first is good for the second (I just made that phrase up but who cares).

I have been dreaming about a lovely slice of blue cheese with some grapes sitting out in the sun. I mean it would be better in the South of France but let us be realistic, I will not be going anywhere in the near future with a toddler and new born.

Prawns have also been taunting me, as well as pate and even a bit of sushi. Now I would not say they were my favourite foods, but when you cannot have something you want it more.

Apart from food I am looking forward to finally getting some sleep. The kicking at night has been eventful, but I know, I know, I will not be getting much sleep once I eventually have the new arrival at home with me.

But it’s different. I’ll be able to look at my husband and two children and smile and I definitely cannot wait to experience that feeling.
