Wimbledon star Laura Robson is hoping the SW19 crowd can replicate the atmosphere of the Olympics and propel her into the second round of the grand slam.
The 19-year-old has a tough first round opener on Tuesday when she takes on the tenth seed Maria Kirilenko, who reached the Championship quarter-finals last year.
But the last time Robson was at Wimbledon, she and Andy Murray won Olympic silver in the mixed doubles in a summer where the nation got behind its sporting heroes.
Robson said: “The Olympics last year was like the best crowd any of the Brits has ever had. Yeah, it would be great if they brought that kind of atmosphere on Tuesday.
“Everyone was very patriotic at the time. There was a group of people that sang the national anthem at my first match but I don't think that's going to be happening on Tuesday.”
Robson split from her coach Zeljko Krajan in May and has been working with Murray’s former coach Miles Maclagan on a temporary basis for the past two weeks – it is a collaboration that is already benefitting Robson’s game.
“It’s only been just over a week. We’re still getting to know each other,” she said.
“But we’re getting on well. I think so far, and the tennis side of things is going pretty well. My serve is looking a little bit better.”
