Now this week has been all about double trouble; looking after two children for the first time.
The journey home from the hospital was a bit surreal.
Not only was I still in shock from the labour, but I was using a double buggy for the first time.
We went for the Bumbleride and I remember thinking it was easy to use, felt good to handle and manoeuvre – the Top Gear lads would have been impressed with my handling of the four wheels.
However, this was the easiest part.
Now, you already know I love the words “routine” (not to a rigid excess mind) and “organisation” but now those words have extra added value in my life on a whole new level I never knew existed.
At first my husband thought I’d developed some form of OCD after giving birth, but he soon realised what lay ahead and was converted with a baptism of fire.
Sometimes I’m up at 5.30am doing chores before the house wakes so I can have some “me” time.
We have food prepared in the freezer and know what meals are eaten each day.
The nap routine for my son is already in place and this invaluable time allows me to play with my newborn and catch up with emails – and afternoons we are getting out to the park for fresh air.
I feel like I’m in some regimented army camp and I’m the sergeant major barking orders but hey, someone has to do it.
Well for all those cynics out there, having two under two isn’t as bad as it seems and I’ve risen to the challenge extremely well even if I do say so myself!
So here’s to the next few busy years and, just so you know, I’m now off for a nap.
