As a council tax payer I am appalled at the amount of rubbish littering our streets.
I try whenever possible to use my own bags for my shopping and will reuse plastic carrier bags as well or recycle them responsibly in the aim to save our planet.
As a senior citizen I feel this is important, although it would appear the youth of today are the ones trashing the place with McDonald’s wrappers, sweet papers cans and bottles littering our streets.
So who are we saving the planet for?
Some of our street cleaners are doing a fantastic job of clearing up this mess and deserve medals.
However there also a few whom should be sacked.
I personally observed a sweeper back in 2011/12 skiving off work and leaving his barrow outside my house for hours and then collecting it to go and clock off.
I collected footage on my home CCTV which got him sacked.
I have seen sweepers drinking as early as 8am at the top of my road.
Sweepers walking up and down hour hours on end talking on mobile phones and others just walking the street with barrows passing by all the rubbish without picking up anything.
Following the sacking of the street cleaner we were blessed to get a Mr Robinson, who was a pleasant and diligent worker.
Not only did he use a broom to sweep, instead those stupid grab sticks for picking up a cigarette butt a time, he de-weeds as well.
Our street had never been so clean since he started. Unfortunately he has now been placed somewhere else.
Although a new sweeper has been allocated to us, I have yet to see him or any evidence of street cleaning.
I have written to the two supervisors twice now without any reply to even acknowledge my letters.
It is easy to see why the streets aren’t clean: if the supervisors don’t do their job why should the street cleaners? Bring back Mr. Robinson.
How clean are your streets?
