Plans for 290 apartments at the former Bank of America building in Croydon town centre have been unveiled by two property giants.
House-building firm Redrow Homes and regeneration specialist Menta are to join forces to demolish Galaxy House in Cherry Orchard Road and replace it with four new buildings.
They bought the building, next to East Croydon rail station, earlier this year after the bank relocated in 2012.
The two property companies, working under the newly created name Menta Redrow, have now submitted a planning application detailing proposals to create flats in four connected buildings at the site.
They hope to begin work in November and finish in spring 2017.
Menta Redrow said more than half the 120,000 sq ft site would be given "gardens, landscaping and public realm improvements".
Craig Marks, director at Menta Redrow, said: "We are delighted with the new joint venture with Redrow and see these new proposals as a great chance to play our part in kick starting regeneration in Croydon.
Keith Parrett, managing director of Redrow Homes South East, said: "These plans represent a significant and positive step forward for the further regeneration of Croydon.
"Subject to planning permission, we look forward to delivering much needed high-quality housing to meet strong local demand."
Menta is also scheduled to begin work on a Morello Tower, mixed-used 54-storey block by East Croydon station, next year.
