Ex-Eastenders star Dean Gaffney was fined and given three penalty points on his driving licence after being caught speeding in Newport.

Gaffney, 35, of Leatherhead, pleaded guilty by post, to speeding in excess of 30mph on a restricted road, at Cwmbran Magistrates' Court on July 25.

On November 17 last year, he was caught speeding in his Mini Cooper S on the A4042, Kingsway.

The court heard he was caught by an automatic camera device while driving at a speed of 35mph.

Gaffney, whose most notable role was as Robbie Jackson in the flagship BBC soap, described himself as a "self-employed actor, currently not working" to the court.

He was fined £100, ordered to pay £45 costs, and given a £20 victim surcharge.

In February this year, less than three months after being caught speeding in Newport, Gaffney was seriously injured in a car accident.

He spent four days in hospital and suffered a four-inch scar across his forehead after crashing his Mini into a barrier in Derby at 40mph.
