A teenager who had her phone stolen following her school prom night has been reunited with it thanks to a hi-tech trick.

The Cheam High School girl was in McDonald's in Cheam when her £400 iPhone was taken on July 13.

But the quick thinking teen activated an app that allows the phone to be tracked meaning police were able to trace it to some undergrowth in Worcester Park where it had been discarded.

The officers were able to remotely prompt the phone to make a sound when they were nearby enabling them to pinpoint the device and give it back to the girl.

PC Gill De'Voreaux said: "This was really good teamwork by officers and the victim was very pleased to get her phone back.

"The teenager has sent us a card to say thank you. We will find the suspect for this crime - and we urge you to give yourself up and report to a police station."
