Commuters in South Norwood face rush hour disruption as emergency repairs are carried out to a burst water main.
The A215 Portland Road closed at 8.00am and repairs are being carried out between Albert Road, and High Street.
The work to repair the 7inch burst main is expected to finish this afternoon.
A spokeswoman for Thames Water said: "A water main under Portland Road burst early this morning.
“We hope to have repaired the broken pipe this evening and hope to reopen a lane in Portlad Road tomorrow morning.
“The other lane will remain closed until the weekend, while we carry out repairs to the carriageway.
“We are very sorry for any disruption this may cause.”
Network Rail's planned works to Goat House Bridge, Penge Road, which will lead to the closure of the bridge, have been postponed until Monday, August 5 as a result of the disruption.
The closure is affecting the 410 bus route, which is on a short diversion and the 130 bus route is stopping in Clifford Road.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
