Nine new specialist homes will be built for old and disabled people in Wandsworth.
The Mayor of London has granted the borough £300,000 to help develop the homes and stimulate the specialised housing market.
Each of the new homes will adhere to Boris Johnson's standards of design and provide a comfortable living space.
There will be very few or no stairs, adapted bathrooms and cupboards at reachable heights.
The homes have been created to help people remain independent, removing the need to go in a care home.
A total of £30m is being spent in a bid to create more specialist care homes across the capital.
