With festival SW4 just around the corner Alexandra Rucki caught up with Denis Ferrer, US DJ and founder of record label Objektivity
How are things going with Objektivity?
Objektivity is going very well. It is an outlet for me and the artists I embrace as family. It is an extension of my mindset and personality.
What do you look for in artists to join your label; with so many around how do you decide which ones you want?
Hunger, open-mindedness, talent and the ability to be humble and self-assessing.
What do you see on the horizon for Objektivity and the artists involved?
Quality records, quality events and memories.
Do you produce tracks differently for Objektivity to how you would for a different label?
No not at all, I just do what I do and I hope I get it right.
With so many bookings all over the world, it must get tiring, regardless of how much you love your job? Do you put more effort into or reserve your energy for some shows over others?
No, I really try to give it my all even when I’m totally out of it energy-wise. People who come to the club don’t care that I had a delayed flight for 10 hours or that I haven’t slept in 48 hours. They’ve got their own problems, some of them went there to forget these problems. It is my job as a professional to suck it up, smile and put on the damn best show I could emotionally and physically muster.
Finally, how do you find London audiences? Are you looking forward to playing for us at SW4 festival this summer?
London is like saying NYC to me, like going to my cousin’s house. I especially look forward to playing for you guys over the summer.
Dennis Ferrer plays South West Four in Clapham Common on Saturday, August 24.
