The Ride London to Surrey challenge takes place this weekend with thousands of cyclists expected to pass through Leatherhead.

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 will take place on Sunday, August 4, and will see amateur and club riders cycling the 100-mile course starting at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, in East London, before heading through 12 London boroughs and parts of north Surrey, finishing on The Mall in central London.

The cyclists will pass through Leatherhead, which cyclists will approach from Box Hill Village and Headley Heath, on their way up to Cobham.

On the same day, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will be taking place, with 150 of the world’s top cyclists competing over the same route.

The ride, which will be the largest ever cycling road race to take place within the UK, has been organised as part of the post-2012 Olympics and Paralympic legacy, which aims to give a major boost to the number of active cyclists in the country.

Organisers expect cyclists in the Surrey 100 to arrive in Leatherhead, from Box Hill en route into Cobham, between 9am and 2.40pm, with the professionals in the Surrey Classic due to make an appearance between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

A number of roads will be closed from early morning, until an estimated time of 7pm, on the day in Leatherhead: Beaverbrook Roundabout, Bull Hill, By Pass Road, Church Street, Dorking Road, Givons Grove Roundabout, Waterway Road, and The Crescent, and Tot Hill and Headley Common Road, both in Headley.
