A director of the healthcare review proposing frontline closures at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals is going to answer your questions in a filmed interview with the Sutton Guardian.

We are asking our readers to send in questions they would like to ask the controversial Better Services Better Value (BSBV) review which has proposed the closure of A&E, maternity and children’s services at Epsom and St Helier hospitals.

Dr Marilyn Plant, joint medical director for BSBV, will answer as many of the questions as possible during an interview session on Friday, August 23, which will be aired on our website.

BSBV is due to go to consultation on three options for the region’s healthcare when the summer is over – although a date has not been set.

The review’s "preferred option" is Epsom and St Helier being downgraded to local hospitals while Epsom becomes a centre for elective care.

BSBV's second, but less preferred, recommendation is both hospitals being downgraded with St Helier becoming the centre for elective care.

Finally the third and least preferred option would see St Helier continuing as an acute hospital with Epsom becoming a centre for elective care and Croydon University Hospital downgraded to a local hospital.

BSBV argue that "better out of hospital care" is at the heart of their vision and they are aiming to drive up the quality of care and health services in the region – as well as making sure the local NHS spends its money as effectively as possible.

However, the review has been highly controversial with demonstrations taking place across south west London and north Surrey.

Campaigners have dubbed it a "flawed process, based on contested assumptions and poor data".
