The question I’m most asked, apart from how I cope with two really young children, is how my son is coping with another baby in the house.
During the whole pregnancy it never really occurred to me that there would be an issue in that department, the only thing that concerned me was knowing how I could love another as much as my firstborn.
That fear was quickly put to rest as soon as I gave birth to my second bundle of joy.
Aside from the fact “jealousy” is neither subtle nor kind, I would hate to think my son would ever feel inadequate due to my attentions being diverted elsewhere.
Luckily for me all is fine and dandy in the Underwood household and there is love in abundance for everyone.
However it does have to be talked about. Forget about my son, I’ve even had the chat with my husband.
He thought I was giving the children more attention than him and I felt I needed a few more hugs. So this isn’t just an issue for the youngsters but for anyone in the house.
It’s all about having quality time with each member of the family and make everyone part of the growing process.
I’ve made a conscious effort not to exclude my boy and make him feel second, which has worked brilliantly.
My son sees his little sibling as an exciting addition and loves to try and feed her, stroke her hair saying ahhhhhhh and shower her with lots of kisses. It’s so cute to watch and fills me with joy.
Don’t get me wrong this will probably change when they start squabbling over toys, but I’ll take it for now.
And just so you know, I’ve had lots more cuddles from the other half.
