Two men have been charged after an attempt to dupe an elderly woman out of £1,500 for building work.

Mark Packham, 34, and Charlie Eagle, 21, both from Tadworth, have been charged with conspiracy to defraud.

A woman in her late 70s received a phone call on March 15 requesting the money for a conservatory she was having built.

The woman, who lives alone in Reigate, became suspicious of the caller and contacted police.

An investigation led to police arresting Mr Packham, of Oatfield Road and Mr Eagle, of Longfield Crescent.

Mr Packham was also charged with another fraud offence after Tadworth woman in her 70s was allegedly conned out of £1,895.

Both men will appear at South East Surrey Magistrates Court on September 3.

PC Helen Simon from Reigate CID, said: "Crimes against elderly members of society are appalling and Surrey Police is committed to doing everything possible to target those who prey on the vulnerable and carry out such offences."
