Firemen were called to a motorway lorry fire this morning only to discover the cause of the "smoke" was a nearby lake.
A Leatherhead fire station spokesman said the reported lorry fire was called in by police at 6.20am.
But on arrival the fire fighters only found mist between junction 9, to Leatherhead, and junction 10 of the M25.
He said: "It was fog or mist coming off a lake next to the motorway and police thought it was a fire.
"We just drove up the motorway and came back round. It happens from time to time. We did not find anything out of the ordinary."
