When you buy a new home, you like to put your own stamp on it.
That’s exactly what Michael and I did when we moved.
We set about ordering new windows, had all the rooms painted and the floors varnished – the house was perfect.
Now had we known our first born would be a dab hand at painting and decorating, we wouldn’t have bothered.
I’ve encouraged Elijah to use pens and crayons from 11 months and for ages he was quite happy using paper and pads to doodle and create his own Picasso art.
He was so proud of his creations and I’ve even kept his first masterpiece in his keepsake box (who knows his scribbles could make me rich one day).
We then bought him an easel and he would delightfully draw his chalk designs while babbling away and then would squeal with excitement wanting one of us to view it as if we were in some history of art seminar.
But now we are now going through the stage of seeing chalk designs on the walls and crayon marks everywhere including the varnished floors.
The first time, Michael was in shock.
He went online and found that WD40 was the solution, only to have the cheeky chap do it again, but this time brazenly show us what he had done with such pride – it was hard to be cross.
The cutest thing is watching him scribble with chalk on the kitchen cupboard doors, then go back with his board rubber and rub it off like daddy does.
Now you may wonder why I’m not up in arms by it all, well, the more he draws on those old cupboards the closer I am to having my new kitchen Michael has promised me from the day we moved in.
