A drug dealer who was selling Class A drug MDMA at a music festival on Clapham Common this summer has been jailed for four years.

Dean Barnes, 26, from Dunstan Road, Battersea, had attended the SW4 dance music festival, which was held over the Bank Holiday weekend on Monday, August 26.

Once inside the venue though security staff spotted him acting suspiciously, apparently dealing the drug to a number of festival goers who were seen speaking to him while he was repeatedly reached down into the front of his trousers.

When a "nervous" Barnes was challenged about dealing, he tried to run off but was quickly apprehended by security staff.

He then produced a sunglasses pouch from inside the front of his trousers, which contained approximately 30 small clear bags of MDMA.

Barnes, who appeared at Inner London Crown Court on September 19, was handed a four year jail term for possession with intent to supply MDMA.

Detective Constable Nicky Dixon, the investigating officer, said: "The SW4 festival has been running now for 10 years.

"We work closely with the organisers to ensure the safety of the revellers.

"The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and I hope that this will act as a deterrent to others that may plan to deal drugs at events like this in Lambeth."
