It’s been a busy week in our household. Firstly I had a day’s filming for Cbeebies and I was incredibly nervous; this would be the first time my children could potentially see me on television and they could be my worst critics.

I discovered that my gorgeous baby not only smiles, but smiles constantly and I also realised my toddler now has an obsession with cleaning.

Yes it’s true, a little one wanting to clear up mess rather than make it.

His new word is “dut” – whenever he sees anything dirty or bits on the floor he points to it until it is removed from his peripheral vision.

It’s quite disconcerting actually, as I do pride myself on my clean house and being on top of things.

He also uses wipes to clean up any mess on his tray and little table. I can’t complain really as a young man needs to understand cleanliness from an early stage.

So this week he’s been hoovering up all the “dut” he leaves all over the floor. I now have a little helper.

As my son’s vocabulary is growing day by day, it feels like I have a little companion who I can properly communicate with on a day-to-day basis and it’s brilliant.

We went shopping together and he helped put the items in the trolley, he discusses world politics in his rambling way and he lets me know when the doorbell has rung if I haven’t heard it.

His quirky little habits and words are fascinating and I often sit back and wonder what on earth is going on in his little head.

The other day he refused to play with his toys but ran around the house with a butternut squash. It was hilarious. I think I’m going to have to go with the flow.
