Disabled residents of Worcester Park have complained to the council after their only parking bay on the high street disappeared.

Despite spending millions of pounds on redesigning and resurfacing Central Road in Worcester Park, Sutton Council has not allocated a bay for non-able bodied drivers.

The work was carried out using money from the Outer London Fund.

Before the resurfacing, a bay was located to the North Cheam end of the road, in front of Prestige dry cleaners.

One disgruntled resident, said: "I have spoken to the council about it, but they are not doing anything. It was hard enough to get the parking spot before, but now it is literally impossible."

A council spokesperson said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience anyone has experienced, but as part of the Outer London Fund programme extensive consultation took place with interested parties including the Sutton Centre for Independent Living and Learning.

"It was agreed to remove this particular bay because it was abused by drivers not entitled to use it and also stood empty for very long periods of time.

"Disabled motorists can still park on single yellow lines in the area."

The Outer London Fund project started in April 2011. The total cost is £2.3million which is made up of contributions from the Mayor of London, Transport for London, Sutton Council and development contributions.
