An 18-year-old has been left distressed and shaken after a man tried to steal his necklace and was then punched in the face by two other strangers.

The male victim left The Europa pub in Walton Road, East Molesey at between 12.30am and 12.50am on Saturday, September 21 and was approached by a man outside Majestic Wines, who grabbed him around the neck and tried to steal his silver necklace.

The suspect is described by police as white, aged between 18 to 24-years-old, about 5ft 11, of chubby build, with a confident attitude and southern accent. It is believed he was wearing a white hooded top with a pattern design on.

The victim was then approached by three other men - two of them punched him in the face before being disturbed by a passing car, allowing him to escape by running to the Cannon pub where he called the police.

Detective Constable Phil Carter from Surrey Police said: "This appears to be an unprovoked attack on a young man by offenders who were not known to him.

"The victim has been extremely distressed and shaken by the ordeal that could have resulted in a far worse outcome, were it not for the passing car disturbing the offenders."

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference EL/13/6301 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
