Elmbridge Council has become the first in Surrey to be awarded smarter planning champion status.
The council was given the accreditation for its drive for efficiency and improving the delivery of its planning application service.
Smarter Planning is a partnership between planning agents, local planning authorities and the planning portal, which is the Government’s online planning and building regulations resource.
The initiative aims to encourage and support best practice in the electronic submission and processing of planning applications.
Councillor Mary Sheldon, portfolio holder for regulatory affairs, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded smarter planning champion status.
“This puts us at the forefront of using online working to promote an efficient and cost effective service and also recognises the work we’ve done to encourage applicants to submit plans online.”
