A cap that has stopped more than 6,000 people in London claiming more than the average wage in benefits has been welcomed by a Sutton parliamentary candidate.
Paul Scully, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Sutton & Cheam, praised statistics that show 6,451 homes across London had their benefits capped.
The Government’s benefit cap stops people receiving more in benefits than the average wage.
Mr Scully said: “People should not be able to claim more in benefits than the average family earns by going out to work.
“These figures show the Government’s plan to fix the welfare system is working, reversing the something for nothing culture which had been allowed to develop.”
