A mother-of-three who has been organising regular fundraising activities for schoolchildren and raising hundreds of pounds in the process, has said she is just an ordinary person dashing about.
Berrylands resident Marysia Korzeniowska-Olmi, 45, has been a part of the Parent and Staff Association at St Agatha’s Catholic Primary School in Kingston for more than a decade.
She has organised bake sales, summer fetes and arranged the Christmas box for the Samaritans – a charity venture that involves helping children decorate a shoe box in festive wrapping before putting in gifts to be sent off to less fortunate children abroad.
She has also taken over the school’s Christmas card project where parents can buy batches of cards designed by their children every year.
But this year will be her final year with the primary school as her youngest boy will leave year 6 and move on to secondary school with his big brothers at Richard Challoner.
The former teacher turned full-time mum, of Norton Road, said: “I just enjoy it all. The Parent and Staff Association brings a lot to the school.
"We do a lot of fun stuff. This is my busiest time of the year and I love it.
“I am going to be very upset when I leave. It has been such a big part of my life. I think my son will be crying on his last day and I will be bawling my eyes out as well.”
Mrs Korzeniowska-Olmi who has an online sugared almond business called Occasional Favours, said she enjoyed cross-stitching and baking in her spare time.
She said: “I’ve baked for the school. My boys would say my earl grey cupcakes go down the best. I’m just ordinary and I’m always dashing about.”
Mrs Korzeniowska-Olmi was nominated by staff at St Agatha’s Catholic Primary School.
Sharon Parsons, assistant to the headteacher, said: “We nominated her because she has done so much fundraising as a member of the Parent and Staff Association. She is always thinking up new ways to raise money.
“She is such a nice person and always so pleasant to deal with. She has been around for 14 years and her youngest child will be leaving in July – she will be a loss to the school. We will miss having her around.”
On being nominated an unsung hero, Mrs Korzeniowska-Olmi said: “I am extremely emotional. I was not expecting it at all. I am just bowled over. It is very touching.”
