A member of one of Britain’s great acting dynasties will be treading the Rose Theatre boards next year in a classic comedy by Michael Frayn.
Jemma Redgrave, daughter of Corin Redgrave and niece of Vanessa and Lynne, will star as Lady Driver in the Rose’s production of Donkeys’ Years, which opens on February 6.
And she will be able to get her acting chops well and truly stuck in to in this popular bedroom farce, set during an all-male reunion dinner at an illustrious university college.
The story follows six former students who gather at their old college rooms for a rambunctious night re-living their salad days, sharing tales of debauchery, disputes... and their mutual lust for Lady Driver, the Master’s wife.
But as the evening ends and the after-party begins, who else but the not-so-prim-and-proper Mrs Driver should find herself locked in the rooms with the rowdy boys?
Directed by Lisa Spirling - whose production of Here, another Frayn play, was on at the Rose last year - Donkeys’ Years will also star Jason Durr and Jamie Glover, with the rest of the cast yet to be announced.
Rose Theatre chief executive Robert O’Dowd said: “We are delighted about the casting announcement for Donkeys’ Years and can’t wait for everyone to get into the rehearsal room in the New Year.
“It is going to be a brilliant production.”
Playwrite Michael Frayn and director Lisa Spirling will be giving a talk about the play in the auditorium at 5.30pm before the evening performance on Thursday, February 13.
