The mayor of Wandsworth's official car was papped parked up in a restricted zone outside a school.

Two images show the car parked illegally on zig zag markings outside John Burns Primary School, Wycliffe Road, Battersea, this morning.

The photograph's were taken by a parent at 8.57am and 9.03am.

Signs in the road display no stopping instructions from 8.15am-9.45am and 3pm-4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

It is believed the mayor, Councillor Angela Graham, was attending a children's aerobics class, taking place at 8.50am in the school playground.

A parent, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he witnessed the car parked up for about six minutes while he dropped his son off at school with the car still parked when he left.

He said: "Is the mayor exempt from such parking restrictions? Does the mayor  have any regard for child safety?

"After all, that must be the purpose of the parking/stopping restriction?"

A council spokesman said: ""There is absolutely no excuse for any driver to park on the zig zag markings outside a school.

"We will be investigating what happened here and why these rules appear to have been breached.

"The safety of children on their way to school is of paramount importance to us."

The luxury Ford car, which comes with a personal driver, is used by the mayor to get to functions and events.
