The Tories followed up their town hall victory with success in the borough’s polls for European Parliament.
David Cameron’s party received a third of the votes cast in Thursday’s election, held simultaneously with the council poll but not counted until Sunday afternoon.
The Tories won 29,057 votes, ahead of the Labour Party in second with 25,853.
Ukip trailed behind in third with 9,164 votes, bucking the national trend that saw them beat every other party to land Ukip 27.5 per cent of votes and 23 MEP seats.
Nigel Farage's party performed poorer across London, where it finished third with 17 per cent of the vote.
Party spokesperson, Suzanne Evans, who ran for councillor in the neighbouring borough of Merton, admitted on Radio 4 the party had difficulty appealing to the ‘educated, cultured and young’.
