A fashion graduate has won an international award at a fashion festival in Gibraltar.
Paul Perez, 25, who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fashion from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) Epsom in 2013, won a New Designer Competition at Runway Gibraltar.
Mr Perez’s capsule collection, inspired by insects and nomadic tribes, was showcased at the festival in May.
He said: "The judges said they were won over by my use of several different fabrics such as leather in conjunction with other tailoring fabrics, as well as my metal work on the jewellery.
"They found this innovative and said these aspects gave me an edge over the other participants. As well as being able to showcase my collection at Brighton Fashion Week, I won a photoshoot with well-known photographer Jayden Fa."
He is currently establishing his own label, Paul Perez.
He said: "I’m so pleased to have won this competition; the hard work has paid off! I owe it to my tutors at UCA, Steven and Barbara, for helping me learn and giving me the tools to push myself a lot further.
"I think without the push from them towards the end of my degree I wouldn’t have been able to do what I am doing now."
Steven Dell, who taught Paul throughout his studies at UCA Epsom, said: "I am so pleased for Paul, it’s a great achievement to be awarded first prize at an international fashion event.
"His success is down to his sheer determination and constant positive attitude. Well done Paul!"
Brighton Fashion Week will be held between October 1 and 5.
