A word created to describe last year's sewer blockages in southwest London has narrowly missed out in a place in the Collins Dictionary after a public vote.
The Collins English Dictionary held a public vote on Twitter to choose a new word to be inserted into its next edition, published in October.
Thirty per cent of users chose 'adorkable', which will enter the dictionary and is defined as "adj slang: socially inept or unfashionable in a charming or endearing way [blend of ADORABLE and DORK]."
Fatberg - which combines the words fat with iceberg, is defined as "a large mass of solid waste, etc. clogging a sewage".
It came to prominence last year after Thames Water underwent a massive cleanup operation in Kingston, where a 15 tonne fat blockage cause a four-week closure of London Road.
Mitcham was also plagued by the dreaded fatberg.
Other contenders included felfie, duckface, gaybourhood, and nomakeupselfie.
The 12th edition of the dictionary will be the first to include a word sourced using Twitter among more than 50,000 new words added this year.
