Kingston will mark 100 years since the outbreak of the Great War today with a service in Market Place.
Mayor Councillor Ken Smith will lead a civil ceremony on Monday, August 4, at noon, before the Rev JonathanWilkes of All Saints Church leads a service.
A reading from the diary of Rifleman James Gordon Watson will be followed by an address by Rt Rev Richard Cheetham, the Bishop of Kingston.
All Saints will house 11 lit candles, which will be extinguished one by one, every hour on the hour, as part of the Royal British Legion’s nationwide Lights Out campaign.
