Some of the borough’s finest female footballers went toe-to-toe in the semi-final of the Surrey County Cup in a rain-soaked borough derby.
Surrey Eagles FC, who train in Rose Hill, played Carshalton Athletic Ladies on Sunday, February 22, at the Robins’ ground in Colston Avenue and lost 2-0.
Surrey Eagles manager Duncan Muller said: “I am a bit disappointed because we didn’t play as well as we could have done. We were unlucky with a couple of chances.
“Our goalkeeper was superb and kept us in it in the first half.
“The average age of our side is 26 to 27, whereas theirs is 19 to 20.
“We have done brilliantly, and we are heading for the title in our division.
“If we win all our games, we win the league.”
Carshalton Athletic Ladies FC, who compete in the London and South East Regional Women’s League, are a few divisions higher than the Sutton-based team, who play in the Surrey County Women’s Premier Division.
They will play either South Park Ladies or AFC Wimbledon Ladies in the final, the date of which is yet to be announced.
