A man has been arrested after an elderly woman was conned out of £250 by two bogus tradesmen.
The distraction burglary happened in Banstead on Friday, January 30.
At 11am on the day, two men, claiming to be tradesmen, called at the house of the woman in her 80s and convinced her she needed work doing to the front of the property.
The woman agreed to this, handed over £200 and asked for a receipt.
One of the men said he would go and fetch one from his van but did not return and the work was never carried out.
The woman then also noticed that £50 had been stolen from her handbag.
A man in his 40s was arrested on Monday, March 9, on suspicion of burglary. He is on bail until Tuesday, April 7, while the investigation continues.
Detective Constable Laura Chambers, investigating officer, said: "The arrest of this man is very much a positive step forward in our investigation into this deeply upsetting crime and I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with our investigation to date."
