Should extremists be given a platform for debate?
That was the big question that divided general election candidates during a lively debate at Hollyfield School.
Liberal Democrat MP Edward Davey, Conservative MEP Dr Charles Tannock, Green Party candidate Clare Keogh and Labour party candidate Lee Godfrey all participated in Hollyfield Question Time on Friday, March 13.
Year 11, 12, and 13 students took the chance to grill the panel about all things that mattered to them - including tuition fees and extremism.
History teacher Nick Buckman, who organised the event, said: "The big divide between our panellists was that the Green Party did not believe extremists should be given a platform, while Ed Davey said extremists should be able to debate, as long as they do not preach extremism, as this is where their arguments can be easily pulled apart.
"The Hollyfield Question Time was a lively and passionate debate between our guest speakers and was widely enjoyed by students and staff."
