Tom Soares could finally get the chance to cement a regular central midfield berth against Burnley tomorrow.
Injuries to Mark Kennedy and Matt Lawrence, plus the continued absence of Michael Hughes, has opened the door for the 20-year-old and he is likely to be given the nod alongside captain Carl Fletcher by Eagles boss Peter Taylor.
Soares recently returned from a three-match ban against Luton Town last Saturday and impressed with some powerful runs into the Hatters' box during the second half.
The England U21 international has spent the majority of his Eagles career on the right wing, but Soares has always stated central midfield is his best position, and he will have a chance to prove it against the struggling Clarets.
Despite his impressive substitute appearance last Saturday, Dave Martin is likely to be on the bench as Paul Ifill is expected to return following his achilles injury.
Dougie Freedman should remain on the left flank, with Clinton Morrison and James Scowcroft continuing up front.
Despite Burnley's poor form, which has seen them go 14 games without a win, Taylor is not going to underestimate Steve Cotterill's men.
"Burnley will be a difficult game," said Taylor.
"They will be hard-working, and will be a well-organised and physical team.
"We have to go there and match them, and try to do what we did at Southend.
"It will be nice to kick on again if we can do that."
