Earthwatch, the international environmental charity, is pleased to offer biology, geography and environmental science teachers the opportunity to apply for the 2007 Earthwatch Environmental Awards - generously supported by the Garfield Weston Foundation.

Lucky winners will join fully-funded expedition teams in the UK or Europe this summer. They may find themselves monitoring dolphins in Scotland or Greece, surveying coastal wetlands in Estonia, or following the flight of the bumble bee in the Cotswolds.

Teachers will also have the chance to produce teaching resources linked to the National Curriculum, transforming their expedition experience into teaching aids for the classroom. There may even be the opportunity to make short films to share with schools and teachers across the country.

Earthwatch aims to provide teachers with an inspirational and deeper insight into wildlife conservation. These special, all-teacher teams will be facilitated by education professionals, with plenty of scope for in-depth discussion. Award-winners will work alongside leading scientists, learn new skills in the field and have networking opportunities.

Jo Phillips, award winner and team member on Coral and Coastal Ecology of the Seychelles in 2006 said: "I had an amazing time - we were able to experience life in the Seychelles in a completely unique way. The collaboration with other teachers, along with guidance from scientists, was inspirational and gave us an opportunity to develop resources that have captured the imagination and brought a sense of purpose to our ecology lessons. "

Teachers who can demonstrate a commitment to the environment are encouraged to apply and take the opportunity to influence tomorrow's generation. No prior experience or knowledge is necessary and training will be provided in the field. Projects operate in the school holidays and grants will be offered for travel expenses.

The closing date for applications is 30th April 2007. For an application form and further information please visit www.earthwatch.org and or email awards@earthwatch.org.uk.
