The race to buy two Croydon office blocks rented by the Home Office has ended after a £100m offer from a Soho property fund was accepted.

Brockton Capital, which has a number of high-end residential investments in central London, is now close to finalising the deal for Lunar House and Apollo House, according to a report in Property Week.

Lunar House is home to the country's only asylum seeker screening unit. Apollo House is used as office space, while also serving as the fictional address of characters Mark and Jeremy in the Channel Four sitcom Peep Show.

A Home Office spokesman said operations would not be affected, as both buildings were leased until 2023.

Since being placed on the market by Israeli pension fund Harel Insurance in June, the buildings have attracted interest from a number of sources, including Croydon property developer Dr Anwar Ansari and an unnamed Middle-Eastern investor.

In July, Dr Ansari submitted an application to convert both buildings into blocks of flats - the day before Croydon Council tightened restrictions on office-to-residential conversions.

Brockton Capital's accepted offer of £5m over the original £95m asking price is the latest sign of Croydon's new-found popularity with investors.

The Croydon Guardian has contacted Brockton Capital for comment. The property fund's existing portfolio includes office and residential sites in central London set for redevelopment, as well as industrial sites and retail parks.

Last week, a small British National Party rally outside Lunar House was drowned out by anti-fascist demonstrators expressing solidarity with refugees and migrants.
