January is just one of those months. It takes some people weeks to get back into the swing of things, others go into hibernation (as their bodies have withdrawal symptoms from everything they’ve overindulged in over Christmas) and some have no choice but to get straight back into the routine.
I fall into the latter category, dragging my family with me. There have been VAT forms to complete, appointments to set up, packages to post, filing to finish off from last year, school admissions deadlines, cello lessons, painting and playdoh fun.
All of this, as well as fitting in filming days for The One Show and taking the children out and about (which also meant getting told off by a woman for letting them take toys out of a play box when they weren’t allowed to).
Thankfully Michael helps out loads, which allows me to get a lot more done and stops me worrying about how little time I have to sort every-thing out.
One event we did thoroughly enjoy this week which was a break from the routine, was a trip to the Rose Theatre, for the very first time, as a family of four!
Our littlest is now at an age where her favourite game of ‘running away and getting us to chase her’, is now a thing of the past. She’s now quite happy to sit down for longer than five minutes, relax and be entertained.
So it was a big moment for us to all go to the theatre to see Mr Popper’s Penguins which was an hour-long show and mesmerizing from start to finish – simply great, old-fashioned family entertainment.
During the show, Michael and I sat looking at each other wondering how the two of us ended up with two small people accompanying us wherever we go.
We had a brilliant time, and definitely one for the journal.
All in all, it’s been a very productive week for a January. I’ve started the year how I’m hoping to carry on. Don’t hold me to that.
